Caribbean Nite in Sunway Lagoon - 23 October 2008

The organizers of Spirits of Music, Jay and Yuki were honored to be one of the guests of

Sunway Lagoon’s “Caribbean Nite Pirate Party”.

(Special thanks to Mr. Vin Wee, Event director of Sunway Lagoon for the invitations)

Entrance to the party venue - Sunway Surf Beach.

As you can see, the whole area was well decorated, with skulls and treasures and pirates. Pretty amazing :D

The event started with series of fireworks: from the back of the stage that is situated in the middle of the water, from the volcano and they even have fireworks that splashed out on the surface of the water across the beach.

Of course, dancing and pirate fighting on stage was one of the opening performances. Undeniably, the scene was breath-taking and astonishing.

Since it was a private party organized by Sunway Lagoon to celebrate their success over the year, including achieving award such as: Asia's Best Attraction 2008 by the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA), there were over 140 event companies invited to join this celebration, with dozens of V.I.P guests around Malaysia to witness this memorable moment.

*Pic: Yuki was chased around by lots of 'ghosts' that night. Those people dressed up as ghosts to promote the coming event - SCREAM, which will be held in Sunway Lagoon Elephant Walk on 31st Oct 2008.

After all the introduction and speeches by the board of directors, a few famous local artists were invited to perform, which includes:

Suki, Reshmonu, Man Jiang Hong, Point Blank and others.

Well, party like this will definitely be served with awesome buffet :D

The food was unquestionably fantastic, with dozens of varieties and funny names too!

As you can see, Jay was eating non stop, even after the event ends -_-"

It was definitely an unforgettable night for both Jay and Yuki. Lots of experiences gained from joining such a function and hopefully they will get another chance to go through this in future!

Last Wednesday we visited Xiao Chuang song composing competition, which is held in University Malaya. This is the fourth competition they held and all the songs that were performed during that night were 100% composed by UM student. Here is the list of our top 10 songs (out of 38 songs).

RULES AND REGULATIONS

1. Each band has to prepare 3 songs for audition: ALL cover songs have to be Japanese songs, no English, Malay, Cantonese or Mandarin songs allowed since this is solely a Japanese Rock event. You can choose to audition with 3 original songs if all 3 of your original songs are in Japanese, or else you are required to audition with two Japanese cover songs and one original English song. All 3 songs that were used for audition are to be perform on stage if the band passed the audition.

2. Audition will be hold on 20th and 21st December 2008. Schedule and venue for each band will be email to band leader one week before the audition date. Band with late arrivals of any members after 15 minutes of the respective time during audition day will be disqualified.

3. A full drum set, amplifiers, microphones, and P.A. system will be provided. Musicians need to bring their own instruments (e.g: keyboard, bass guitar, electric guitar). Extra charges will be taken if musicians were to borrow any instruments in the studio. (Including guitar pick and drum sticks.)

4. Registration forms should be handed in by 1st December 2008, before 6 p.m. Late submission will not be accepted.

5. Registration fee for each band is RM 50. Fees can be paid on the audition day itself.

6. Each band is required to send in their band profile, pictures or website (if any) to the organizer as a record.


7. Spirits of Music event will be hold on 21st March 2009. Each band is given maximum time of 30 minutes on stage during the performance day (approximately 6 songs), inclusive of your original songs (max: 3, if any).

Vision & Mission

The main objective of Spirits of Music is to take this opportunity to introduce local band scene to public by using JRock as our main genre to attract more audiences.

Since we have "Malaysian Idol", "One in a Million", "Project Superstar" and "Akademi Fantasia" that discover and reveal individual talented singers in Malaysia, Spirits of Music aimed to be the medium to discover new, fresh talented artist - in the form of a band setting. This is a groundbreaking organization and we intent to make it to reality TV show in future.

With our slogan “where dream turns to reality”, we clearly stated the main aim for having such organization is to provide platforms for musicians to shine on stage with astonishing showmanship, since JRock is usually closely related to Visual-Kei (refers to a movement among Japanese musicians that is characterized by the use of eccentric, sometimes flamboyant looks). Therefore, with the rapid increasing number of independent bands in Malaysia, it is definitely a great opportunity and appropriate occasion for musicians to exchange musicianship and gain recognitions.

Due to the fact that our previous event, JRock Kingdom 4 that was held in RUUMS was well-received and successful, with over 800 audiences, Spirits of Music vowed to continue providing memorable and entertaining event to Malaysians.

Spirits of Music organization was established in early March 2008 (formerly known as JRock Kingdom 4) to create an innovative community that welcomes all who are vastly in love and have great passion towards JRock music to join us. In this community, public are allowed to associate with local bands, get in touch with them and most importantly, to exchange musical knowledge and have certain perspective towards local music industry.
